A power bank is an essential item for many people, especially when traveling. However, many passengers still wonder whether they can bring a power bank on board. If you’re unsure about the regulations, check out the detailed information below to be well-prepared for your flight with Vietjet!
A power bank (also known as a portable charger) is a compact device that stores electrical energy and supplies power to mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, wireless earphones, and more when their batteries run low.
You can think of a power bank as a "portable power outlet" that allows you to charge your devices anytime, anywhere. Thanks to this convenience, a power bank ensures you’ll never have to worry about losing connection due to a dead battery. Its practicality has made it an indispensable travel companion.

A power bank – compact yet extremely important for every long trip.
One of the most common concerns among travelers is: Can I bring a power bank on a Vietjet flight?
The answer is YES, but passengers must strictly follow the airline's regulations to ensure safety throughout the flight.
In particular, after several incidents involving power bank short circuits and fires on flights worldwide, Vietjet has updated its policy regarding power banks carried on board. Make sure to read through this article to stay updated with the latest regulations!

You are allowed to bring a power bank on the plane, but you must strictly comply with Vietjet’s regulations.
According to Vietjet’s latest updated regulations in 2025, passengers are allowed to bring power banks on board if they meet the following conditions:
Power banks must be carried in hand luggage and are not allowed in checked baggage.
During the flight, the power bank must be taken out of the hand luggage and placed in a visible and easily accessible position.
Passengers are strictly prohibited from charging the power bank in any way or using it to charge personal devices during the flight.

Make sure not to use the power bank during the flight for your safety and the safety of other passengers!
The power bank must be completely turned off—it cannot be in standby or hibernation mode during the flight.
The power bank must be properly stored—ideally kept in its original packaging, a shockproof case, or have its charging ports insulated with tape to prevent short circuits.
The device must have clear origin information and display its capacity and power output.
Each passenger is allowed to carry a maximum of 10 power banks, with each having a capacity of no more than 100Wh. For power banks with a common voltage of 5V, this is equivalent to about 20,000mAh.
For power banks with a capacity between 100Wh and 160Wh, passengers are allowed to carry a maximum of 2 devices.
Power banks cannot be carried for commercial purposes or in large quantities for resale.
Many passengers still wonder about the power limits when bringing a 20,000mAh power bank on board. Besides checking the specific allowed capacity of your power bank, it’s important to understand general airline regulations.
Below is a detailed table of the allowed capacity:
|
Power Bank Capacity |
mAh Equivalenty |
Allowed Quantity |
|
≤100 Wh |
≤ 20.000 mAh |
Maximum 10 units |
|
100Wh – 160Wh |
20.000 – 32.000 mAh |
Maximum 2 units |
|
>160Wh |
>32.000 mAh |
NOT allowed on board under any circumstance |
Many passengers are unsure about the allowed capacity of power banks on flights. To check, you can convert mAh to Wh using the following formula:
Power (Wh) = Battery Capacity (mAh) × Voltage (V) ÷ 1000
Example: If your power bank has a capacity of 10,000mAh and a voltage of 3.7V, the calculation will be:
Wh = 10,000 × 3.7 ÷ 1000 = 37Wh
According to the regulations, power banks under 100Wh are fully allowed on board but must be kept in carry-on luggage and follow Vietjet’s storage guidelines in Section 3.1.
The reason power banks are prohibited in checked baggage is due to safety concerns. Most power banks use Lithium-ion or Lithium-polymer batteries, which can store large amounts of energy but are highly sensitive to external impacts such as strong shocks, high temperatures, or sudden changes in air pressure.
If a power bank is placed in checked luggage, it may be exposed to intense shaking or pressure changes in the cargo hold, increasing the risk of a short circuit, fire, or explosion. Furthermore, checked baggage is not monitored as closely as carry-on luggage, which raises the potential risk of incidents.
NO! Sudden changes in air pressure during the flight can cause electrical malfunctions in the device, increasing the risk of fire or explosion. Therefore, according to Vietjet’s regulations, you are not allowed to use a power bank at any time during the flight to ensure the safety of yourself and all passengers on board.
According to Vietjet’s latest regulations, the power bank must be taken out of your carry-on luggage and placed in a visible and easily accessible position throughout the flight for safety purposes. You can keep it in your jacket or pants pocket if it is compact, place it in the seat pocket in front of you, or put it on the tray table (note: do not open the tray table during take-off and landing).
