Phu Cat Airport is a bustling air traffic gateway in the Central region, playing an important role in the economic development and national security and defense strategy of Binh Dinh province.
This airport is managed by Vietnam Airport Corporation. Besides civil service, Phu Cat airport is also a military training ground and the base of the 925th Air Force Regiment of the 372nd Air Force Division.

Phu Cat Airport was built in 1966, then called Go Quanh Airport, and was the 60th tactical air base of the Republic of Vietnam Air Force.
After 1975, this airport was directly managed by the Ministry of Defense of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. At the same time, the Government has approved a project to repair and upgrade Phu Cat airport into a civil airport to serve the people. In September 1984, the first civil flight took off at Phu Cat.
On January 17, 2015, Vietnam Airports Corporation started a project to expand and upgrade operational capacity at Phu Cat Airport. The apron expansion project ensures 7 aircraft parking positions instead of the original 4 positions. In addition, apron lighting systems and beacons were additionally invested to operate night flights. This project was completed and put into operation in 2015.
In January 2020, Quy Nhon Airport officially became Phu Cat International Airport.
Phu Cat Airport has many domestic flights. In particular, Vietjet is operating flights to and from Quy Nhon from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Quy Nhon Airport officially became Phu Cat International Airport in January 2020. Therefore, international flights have been put into operation at Phu Cat airport, but the number is not large.

Construction of the new terminal at Phu Cat Airport began in 2017 and was put into use in May 2018, replacing the old terminal. The new station has a total usable area of 8,397 square meters with 2 floors.
The first floor has an area of 4,972 square meters including the main lobby, check-in area, ticket counter, baggage sorting area, security check area, baggage carousel, commercial service areas and VIP lounge.
The second floor has a usable area of 3,425 m2, including a waiting room for boarding passengers, a business class lounge and a non-aviation service area.
