Pleiku Airport was built in the 1960s to serve military purposes. On March 18, 1975, Pleiku City was liberated, and Pleiku Airport became a base for the Vietnam Air Force.
In May 1977, Pleiku Airport officially operated civil flights. On December 12, 1977, Pleiku airport officially received a staff of 27 people, including 1 Director, 1 Deputy Director with the task of serving national defense safety and socio-economic development. After expanding and upgrading, Pleiku Airport has a 2,400m x 45m wide runway with modern equipment, ensuring the operation of A320/321 and Boeing 737 aircraft. On September 5, 2015, the Pleiku Airport upgrading project was inaugurated and put into operation.
In 2016, Pleiku Airport received additional investment from Vietnam Airports Corporation in the project "ILS Precision Landing System" and the project "Expanding the apron with 3 more parking positions for A320 aircraft." /A321 and equivalent” to facilitate convenient flight operations.
Pleiku Airport's planning goal for 2030 is to invest in building a new passenger terminal with a capacity to serve 4 million passengers per year.
