(Vietjet, Hanoi, April 9, 2025) - On the afternoon of April 9 in Hanoi, Vietnam Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended a ceremony to commend and present Certificates of Merit to collectives and individuals from the armed forces, rescue and relief teams, Vietjet Air, etc. for their contributions in supporting earthquake victims in Myanmar. The event was also attended by Vietnam Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh, Minister of National Defence Phan Van Giang, Minister of Public Security Luong Tam Quang, and leaders from various ministries and organizations.
Vietjet has been awarded the Certificate of Merit from Vietnam Prime Minister for its timely coordination in successfully organizing two special flights transporting the mission team from the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of National Defence of Vietnam, along with over 60 tons of relief supplies, to Yangon, Myanmar. This recognition affirms Vietjet’s practical and meaningful contributions to the success of Vietnam’s humanitarian mission, while also reflecting the spirit of compassion, international responsibility, and the promotion of Vietnam’s image in global humanitarian efforts.
Vietnam Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, leaders of the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of National Defense met and commended the Vietnamese rescue team returning from Myanmar after successfully completing the task of supporting the recovery of the serious earthquake that occurred on March 28. The Prime Minister highly appreciated Vietjet for being a pioneer, promptly coordinating support, demonstrating a spirit of solidarity and high responsibility, not discussing much, proposing to do it immediately, without hesitation.
Within less than 24 hours of receiving the mission order, Vietjet had completed all technical, logistical, and flight permission procedures to promptly deploy two dedicated flights – VJ2875 and VJ2877 using a wide-body A330 and a modern A321 aircraft. The two flights departed from Noi Bai Airport, Hanoi on the afternoon of March 30, carrying 106 officers and soldiers of the armed forces, service dogs and more than 60 tons of relief goods including medical equipment, food, etc. to Myanmar.
At Yangon airport, immediately after landing, the rescue team and Vietjet one quickly offloaded and delivered goods to the most severely affected regions. Police and military soldiers immediately deployed search and rescue, provided medical care and assisted people in overcoming the consequences of the disaster.
The 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28 caused severe damage, with over 1,600 fatalities, nearly 3,500 injuries, and hundreds of people reported missing. Numerous infrastructure facilities were destroyed, and seismic tremors were felt as far as Thailand and Vietnam.
Vietjet is an airline with extensive experience in organizing humanitarian and emergency flights. The airline has previously transported relief forces and aid supplies to disaster-hit areas such as the 2018 earthquake and tsunami in Indonesia, and Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines in 2013.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Vietjet also operated a series of special flights transporting healthcare personnel, essential workers, and medical equipment to outbreak areas. These activities not only demonstrate a spirit of solidarity and compassion, but also embody the community-oriented corporate culture that Vietjet consistently maintains and promotes.
